Subteams
Design
The Design Team is responsible for designing the overall build and functions of the robot to meet challenge requirements. We design the robot with CAD using professional software like Fusion 360. The design team is in charge of selecting the parts and materials we need for the robot.
Mechanical
The Mechanical Team builds and assembles the robot as specified by the Design team. From CNC 3D printers, welders, mills, and lathes to table work and putting pieces together we learn to efficiently and safely use tools and machines from mentors. From the design phase to the build phase we all work together to create a robot.
Electrical
You will learn the basic circuitry skills needed to make a robot. We will use electronics and sensors/modules to control and give life to our robot. Once again no prior experience is needed, this is a great place to start if you are interested in electrical engineering and want to learn more about how hardware works.
Programming
A big part of creating robots is the software that goes into the robot. The Programming Team will write code to control the robot in both autonomous and manual modes. No experience is necessary and this is a great chance to get real-world experience in programming. Even experienced programmers will still learn new things. The programming experience gained from Rancho’s Robotics team is useful to those who want to learn or build a career in Computer Science.
Business/Management
Arguably the most important subteam, Business is responsible for finding team sponsors, maintaining relationships with them, organizing fundraising events, providing financial tracking, designing team apparel and other merchandise, managing the team's social media, and documenting events.
Strategy/Drive Team
The Strategy subteam studies the game rules and develops mock matches to develop the best strategy for our team to use during competitions. They also communicate with the other teams on our alliances to develop strategies. All drive team members must be a part of this subteam.
